Hanson song to benefit AIDS patients in South Africa
Hanson will release a song, “Great Divide,” on iTunes Nov. 27 for World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.

The song, described as a “hopeful yet intense rock anthem,” features a South African children’s choir. The Tulsa pop group recorded it during the band’s July trip with a local health technology company to South Africa where the brothers were horrified by the continent’s AIDS epidemic.

“Our trip to Africa was a personal awakening,” the group’s singer, Taylor Hanson, said in a press release. “Our experience there made clear that the fi ght against AIDS is an urgent cause that requires action whether you’re in the ghettos of Soweto or suburbs of America.”

The song will be released in Europe Nov. 27, the press release states. Money from the sales will go to the Perinatal HIV Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa.

Os Hanson irão lançar uma faixa que estará disponível exclusivamente na Internet em razão do Dia Mundial da AIDS. Todo o dinheiro arrecadado com a música será destinado à Unidade de Pesquisa do HIV, em Soweto

30 de outubro, Londres, UK: Os Hanson anunciaram hoje que irão lançar uma faixa especialmente para a Internet, em razão do Dia Mundial da AIDS, em 1º de dezembro. A canção, “Great Divide”, conta com a participação de um coral de crianças da África do Sul e foi gravada durante uma viagem recente do grupo à África. Em julho, Isaac, Taylor e Zac Hanson viajaram para a África do Sul e Moçambique com a intenção de ficar mais por dentro da questão e ver de perto a devastação que a AIDS está causando no continente e o que pode ser feito em conjunto com aqueles que já trabalham para ajudar as milhões de pessoas que sofrem da doença. A banda foi acompanhada da DocVia, uma companhia de tecnologia da saúde baseada na cidade natal da banda, Tulsa, Oklahoma, e que fabrica tecnologia móvel para conectar pacientes e médicos a distância. A DocVia doou sua tecnologia para a Unidade de Pesquisa do HIV Perinatal do Hospital Chris Hani Baragwanath, em Soweto, África do Sul (www.hivsa.com).

“A viagem à África abriu os nossos olhos,” disse Taylor Hanson. “A experiência que tivemos lá deixou claro que a luta contra a AIDS é uma causa urgente e que requere mobilização tanto nos guetos de Soweto quanto nos subúrbios dos EUA. Essa é a mensagem que queremos ajudar a transmitir através de todos os meios possíveis, e queremos encorajar as outras pessoas a fazerem o mesmo.”

A faixa a ser lançada, “Great Divide”, é um intenso hino de rock, cheio de esperança, que convida à ação. Isaac Hanson explica: “Great Divide é sobre o ato de encarar tarefas aparentemente impossíveis, e sobre a nossa necessidade de termos esperança. Ao ouvir a voz das crianças africanas, cantando ‘Eu tenho esperança’ na língua nativa delas, a mensagem da música se torna ainda mais forte.”

A música será lançada no Reino Unido e em vários países da Europa no dia 27 de novembro, pelo iTunes, de forma exclusiva, com 100% dos lucros derivados da venda da música revertidos para a Unidade de Pesquisa do HIV Perinatal do Hospital Chris Hani Baragwanath, em Soweto, África do Sul. A co-fundadora e pediatra da Unidade de Pesquisa do HIV Perinatal, Dra. Glenda Gray, ficou animada com a notícia. “É maravilhoso ver músicos se interessando e entendendo os desafios que os nossos pacientes precisam enfrentar. Ao ajudar companhias como a DocVia e ao fazer doações para organizações que lutam contra a AIDS, a banda espera poder encorajar outros artistas e empresas a assumirem um papel mais ativo na luta contra a AIDS na África.

A banda está finalizando um vídeo para a música, o qual contém cenas de sua viagem à África e o qual servirá para aumentar a consciência a respeito da necessidade urgente de lidar com a questão. Mais informações sobre o lançamento do vídeo estarão disponíveis em breve.

Os Hanson foram recentemente elogiados pela publicação Village Voice, de Nova York, como sendo “secretamente, a banda do mais puro rock’n’roll dos EUA” e o documentário da banda, Strong Enough to Break, foi escolhido na semana passada para ser exibido no Festival de Cinema de Hollywood.
